autumn in the bush
The Western Australian native bush land is full of diverse colours, structures and form. Variety of tall trees such as Marri, Jarrah, Tuart, Banksia and Sheoak. Plus immense variety of under story shrubs, grasses, and orchids at varying cycles throughout the year. The Grasstrees ( (Balgas, Xanthorrhoea) and the Macrozamia riedlei Cycad are some of my favorites during the autumn or wet season in our bush.
Australian plants do not drop their leaves all at once. They drop a steady supply of plant parts at different times throughout the year from a few leaves, then flower heads, flowers and small twigs.
As the summer cycle is very hot and dry autumn means wet and moisture to revive the land. The original Indigenous people tell of stories of how they used the colour and smells of the bush to know changes of cycles.
