Prickly Lettuce 1

Prickly Lettuce

Lactuca serriola L

Family Asteraceae....

This noxious weed is presently exploding all around the Sir Frederick Samson Park Reserve.

Over the last year this plant with the very wet winter, spring and early summer rain has helped this weed to explode its grip in many locations around the park.

From what I have observed of this weeds characteristics just over the past 5 months in Samson Park is if it is not pulled out on a regular bases over the next year or two this weed will have completed taken hold of the entire park within the next two years.

There is an urgent need to get the Friends of Samson Park mobilised and started to be systematically and sustainedly active in pulling this weed out.

I have started on what I thought was the only plot around the end of December but since I started pulling those weeds out I have found this weed is in many other locations just a little more hidden off the main walking tracks.
