Clouds and blue skies would have surrounded the Jarrah trees for hundreds of years that went into constructing these staircases before they were felled in the early part of 1860's in Western Australia.
These stairs are inside the Fremantle Mental Asylum which was also built by the convicts under instruction by British Engineering Sappers like my Great Grandfather Henry Martin Jarvis 1827-1906.
Another building where great terror and very inhuman acts were inflicted on other human beings, all in the guise of being good for them or deserved. Were others inflicted injustices and bulling delivered as medicine and healing balms to the mentally ill, traumatised, abused, or homeless souls.
Another place of isolation, punitive punishment, incarceration which now serves the community as an Art Center for joyful and playful revenue raising, entertainment purposes or silent places to reflect and ponder on artistic creations.
Far too many old sacred trees and environments were stripped bare to construct this building.
