This image says so much about the Australian culture during the years Irma was growing up there.

 

All socialising was done with beer and usually in Hotel bars. And it was these same Hotels that offered many job opportunities for young beautiful women to earn an income when many other jobs were hard to come by especially during this time between two world wars and the great depression.
