“Snakes and Ladders”-Resilience Guide
By Terri Turner
Engaging children, through play to learn how to build and grow their own inner resilience.
Using the very well-known game “Snakes and Ladders” with a set of cards that have been specially designed and trialled to educate, inform and train children on how to stop themselves sliding down into their ancient instinct brain when a bad feeling over takes them.
Children of all ages can experience, through play and fun the skills to control their own inner feelings instead of their feelings controlling them.
When you boil down all the science behind resilience over the past 40 years it is the visions and knowledge the child is given by the adults around them that either build or retard their inner capacities latent within every child.
Building and strengthening children’s inner capacities forms a solid foundation of resilience which in turn supports strong mental health in their adolescent/youth and adult lives.
Explaining in simple language to children how their brains work and then practicing simple actions to assist them to slowly gain control of their own inner feelings/actions when confronted with stress/fears.
Simply knowing they do not have to be a victim to their own inner emotions and bad feelings lifts a heavy burden off their little
shoulders which far too many children are carrying in today’s 21st century.
