Dal Lake , Srinagar
I took this long shot of Dal Lake from the Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar. It was an incredible view and I have not been able to do justice at all but I thought it is good enough to just give an idea of this amazing Lake to my friends here.:-)
A Shikara(boat) ride is a must for tourists on a trip to Srinagar. Earlier it was also a popular thing for tourists to stay in houseboats lining the shores of this beautiful lake but these days most prefer to stay in hotels. In this shot you can see both the Shikaras floating on the blue waters and the hundreds of houseboats lining the shores of the Lake.
Might be worth a look in large.
Dal is a freshwater lake and is integral to tourism and recreation in the Kashmir valley. It is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting. The shoreline of the lake, about 15.5 kms, is encompassed by a boulevard lined with several Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. The lake covers an area of 18 sq.kms and is part of a natural wetland which covers 21,1 sq.kms including floating gardens. The floating gardens, known as "Raad" in Kashmiri, blossom with lotus flowers during July and August.
