Goa was conquered by the Portuguese under the command of Alfonso de Albuquerque from the Sultanate of Bijapur in 1510.It remained under Portuguese rule till 1961 when it became part of India.The culture and architecture of this tiny state is a beautiful amalgamation of the local Konkan and Portuguese cultures and architecture. Goa is famous for its beautiful beaches, magnificent churches and villas dating back to the colonial era, its nightlife, its friendly people, great food and rich vegetation and wildlife.
