Rohtang Pass
Rohtang Pass (13050 feet)is a mountain pass in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas.The name Rohtang means " Mound of corpses" in the local Bhoti language. Although the altitude of this pass is not very high as compared to other passes in the Himalayas,many people have lost their lives in crossing this pass due to its unpredictable weather.This pass connects the lush and idyllic Kullu valley to the arid and harsh Lahaul & Spiti valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India.The River Beas has its origin on the southern side of this pass.This is the first pass one has to cross while driving from Manali to Ladakh.It is approx.50 kms from Manali.
