On top of the world

Driving through bad weather at over 17000 feet.I took this shot through the windscreen of our car near Tanglang La pass (17480 feet) a high altitude pass on the Manali-Leh highway. This is the second highest motorable pass in the world.

Unfortunately you can see that our countrymen like to litter the countryside even at that altitude.:-(

The spectacular Manali-Leh highway connects Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh to Leh in the state of Jammu& Kashmir in India. The average elevation of this road is around 13000 feet and the highest elevation is at Tanglang La pass (17480 feet). The highway remains snow-bound and closed for around 6-7 months of the year. One can see amazing mountain scenery with some fantastic sand and rock formations while travelling this highway.I have travelled a lot of mountain roads but this has been probably the most breathtaking and beautiful ever.:-)
