Shore Temple,Mahabalipuram

The Shore Temple, situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal in Mahabalipuram near Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu,India. It was built in the 8th century A.D during the reign of King Narasimhavarman II of the Pallava dynasty. The Pallavas ruled from Kanchipuram and Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram as it is now called was their port city.

It is one of the oldest structural temples of South India built of blocks of granite. It is 60 feet tall and stands on a 50 feet square granite platform. The main deity of this temple is a Shiva lingam.

I took quite a number of shots of this gorgeous temple but I chose this one to share because you can just catch a glimpse of the deep blue waters of the Bay of Bengal to the right of this shot.
