The Gathering Storm
As if to underline the point: England's next opponents in Euro 2016 are Iceland. A country perhaps more renowned for its dramatic skies (rather than having a population the same size as Leicester).
Euro 2016 update 27.06.16. The storm clouds were indeed portentous. Joe Hart got dandruff in his eyes and Wayne forgot why he was on the pitch. Every cross or free kick was overhit (or worse, played short when England then had no idea what to do afterwards). Out of Europe twice in the space of a week. Both performances utterly disgraceful.
I'm Scottish and, perhaps unusually, always want England to do well but I can honestly say (to add to the Churchillian theme) that this is most certainly not England's finest hour.
