Gaza siege marks 1000 (2)

The Palestinians in the Gaza Strip marke 1,000 days of the tight Israeli siege imposed on the narrow enclave, where 1.5 million Gazans are facing a "slow death."

The Popular Committee to challenge the Israeli siege told a news conference in Gaza that the population of the Gaza Strip is facing a "slow death" due to the tight Israeli blockade.

Today, the Gazans will light 1000 candle in a mark of 1000 days of Israeli siege.

Israel imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip after Hamas kidnapped in June 2006 the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Israel tightened the blockade and shut down all its crossing points with Gaza after the movement seized control of the territory in June 2007.
