Taking A Sweet Break
At Keukenhof's main entrance enjoying my Dutch waffle.
Compared to the Belgian Waffle, Dutch's are crisp inside and out. Belgian's are soft on the inside, giving you that "melts-in-your-mouth" feel. I like Dutch's better. :))
The modern waffle traces back its origins in the wafers-very light thin crisp cakes, baked between wafer-irons-of the Middle Ages. Modern Dutch Wafel share the same etymological origin as French Gaufre and German Waffel. The Dutch form, wafel, was adopted into modern American English as waffle, in the 18th century.
