Atomic #26
Brush up your Chemistry know-hows and tell me that lustrous, silvery soft metal's name.
Initially built for the 1958 Brussels World Fair, the Atomium was designed by engineer Andre Waterkeyn to evoke the concept of the atom, the basis of all science dealing with the formation of matter. To turn the plan into a reality, he decided to enlarge the elementary iron crystal to the scale of its atom more than 160 billion times.
The structure is one of the most visited attractions in Brussels today. In 2008, the Atomium will celebrate its 50th birthday.
