Rhamphomyia (Holoclera) variabilis - male
Small flies found in the garden from time to time in September. I photographed one in 2013 and now have recorded 4 more. My 2013 observation remains the only on on the NBN Gateway system in Suffolk, but I'm fairly sure that is due to under-recording rather than my garden being their sole domain. The species has been confirmed by Paul Beuk.
This is a composite photo of the same individual fly, sitting on an Aster flower in the garden (Ipswich, VC25 East Suffolk, TM166450) on 19 Sept 2015.
