light design

“This light was inspired by my dissertation, looking at using different materials and the benefits they can produce aesthetically and environmentally.”

This was a two week creativity project at the beginning of fourth year; it was purely experimental as a way of re-focusing on the aesthetics of products by experimenting with a plain light bulb.

This light is made from strips of recycled paper that has been mixed with grass to give the paper a natural rough texture. The strips have then been weaved into 6 sections, joined using the tails from each section and weaving them into each other and then held with epoxy glue.

The Weave, has an organic feel to it, not only from the paper but also from the way it’s structure has started to bend and take on its own form following the weave.
