After they unanimously approved a statement calling Lutherans to ask Mennonites for forgiveness for past persecutions, delegates to the Eleventh Assembly of Lutheran World Federation (LWF) attended a special "Service of Repentance" in Stuttgart's Old Reithalle. Among the symbols on the altar were olive branches, a pine foot-washing tub, and an image of the celebrated Anabapist martyr Dirk Willems.
