Wilson's Warbler, Male (Wilsonia pusilla); Santa Fe National Forest, NM, Thompson Ridge [Lou Feltz]
Although I recognized this species immediately on spotting it, its presence up here in the dry mountains is not that common. The species is regular along the lower valley streams and loves brushy surroundings. Up here (8600 ft. msl) we have mostly aspens and mixed conifer forest... and scant reliable water. This is only the third local viewing of this species in over 15 years. Males have jet black crowns while the adult females have lighter gray crowns. Juvies look more like Mom than Dad..
