Black-legged Kittiwake has a Conservation Status under the IUCN of Vulnerable

The perches appear precarious, but for Black-legged Kittiwake (such as the two on angled rocks in this image) such surroundings are their home during breeding season. Locations like these cliffs near the lighthouse at Svörtuloft in the Vesturland region of Iceland provide sanctuary from predators and easy access to feeing grounds during the time when they are rearing vulnerable young. Another Black-legged Kittiwake wheels through the air, one of many birds of several species that utilize this terrain. This was near the small town of Hellissandur on the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
