The common name honours British bird artist Elizabeth Gould (1804-1841), wife of naturalist John Gould and accomplished illustrator of his works and others including by Charles Darwin. There are several subspecies of Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird; this image shows an immature male of the Scarlet-breasted form. This sighting was in the Doi Lang area of Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park, Chiang Mai province, Thailand.
