Cinnamon Teal male
It caught me by surprise to see Cinnamon Teal in Peru. I had seen the species in Mexico but not further south on trips to Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. Turns out this duck is widespread in South America, reported all the way down to the tip of the continent in Tierra del Fuego. I guess the lesson is sometimes you miss even common species. This male was resting at a small lagoon in the Pantanos de Villa wetlands in Lima, Peru. I was on a guided outing in a small and quiet electric boat, so we were able to approach closely.
