In both these Michael McWilliams paintings forester kangaroos are seen moving through the landscape. Since colonial settlement, numbers of these kangaroos have declined (as distinct from mainland kangaroos whose numbers continue to grow). The impact of clearing of land changes the environment and fires are now more common. The greatest victims of bushfires are in fact the native animals.
