Solid Rock, Sacred Ground
In 1982 an Australian rock band named Goanna wrote a song that must be one of the most important ever recorded in this country. It reminded us that we are living on land that has been sanctified by human habitation for more than 60,000 years. It is solid rock and it isn't going anywhere.
This photograph captures something of that meaning as natural processes have shaped the very patterns we see in this rock formation today. But as I looked at it on a Bruny Island beach recently, I was conscious of the fact that other more perceptive eyes had looked at this same rock centuries ago.
