The Sentry

[This is one that needs to be enlarged. If you're looking on your phone sorry.]

Of all the zoo animals few are as popular around the world as the Meerkat (Suricata suricatta). It is actually a mongoose from southern Africa, and it has one of the most highly developed communities among small mammals. Every member has a role to play, and one of the most important is that of the sentry. Its job is to look out for potential danger and warn the community who can then flee to their burrows.

Looking back at this older photo now, I am amazed at the clarity and colour in that original jpeg taken with the Panasonic DMC-FS7. As with all these small sized files, they have not been cropped, but framed in camera.
