Welcome to Larapuna
Eddystone Point on Tasmania's north east coast was first sighted by Europeans with the voyage of Abel Tasman in 1642. It is now in the Mount William National Park.
The land around the lighthouse that was built in 1889 has now been returned to the local Aboriginal community. It is known by its original name, larapuna. This handover took place in 2006 and the Aboriginal Land Council now has management of the property. There is a fine description here of their role: tacinc.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/larapuna_17.4.15...
The community is very welcoming of visitors to this wonderful location.
