A View to Mount Direction
Taking my previous view of the grass fields and turning around almost 180 degrees will give you this view to Mount Direction. You can see the effect on the light immediately. Whereas the acute angle of sunlight on the sea of grass makes it look like a wheat field, in this shot it is unmistakably grass. The subtler tones and textures lead us all the way to the east bank of the Tamar River and the green pastures with sheep grazing on the other side.
Mount Direction is significant as the first semaphore station to relay messages between George Town and Launceston in the first half of the 19th century. It was superseded with the arrival of the telegraph. parks.tas.gov.au/explore-our-parks/mount-direction-histor...
