Town Hall

The streetscape of Stanley has such a beautiful historical integrity that it was turned into a film set in 2016. The makers of the film, "Light Between Oceans" wanted to use Stanley for the town scenes. So they cleared out all the modern vehicles, covered the roads with dirt, and used the locals as extras in period costume and horses and carts. It's a lovely movie, with a harrowing twist. I confess to shedding a few tears watching it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w51IR_BFGyc

The Town Hall is beautifully preserved and shows the pride the locals have in their town. Built in 1911 it looks sensational in those pastel colours in that late afternoon light. Mentally blank out the cars, and you could easily go back to the Edwardian period. Stanley has been through trying times before (I'll show you their war memorial soon), and they have shown great resilience. Times are tough for the town that relies on tourism more than ever before. But they'll bounce back.
