Plenty to see at the Zoo

It was an overcast morning. The light was not good. I had 90 minutes, and I did not have my big lens (the Tamron 150-600mm). So I was up against it getting many decent shots. But I think there are enough scenes of interest to show the diversity of a modern city zoo.

After a long period of lock downs in Melbourne, the staff worked tirelessly to keep things going ready for the time when the zoo could reopen to the public. It did, the week before I arrived there. It was imperative for people to book ahead as crowd numbers were limited for physical distancing purposes. The Melbourne Zoo is a major attraction in the city.

The main entrance gate here at Royal Park is classic art deco. I love the bear and kangaroo sculptures on the top of the building. I am less enamored with the modern shelter that juts out from this building, but it does bear the full name, "The Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens".

The scene before me though is of most interest. All the patrons arriving for their day at the zoo. Fun for the kids, especially this little child looking directly at my camera. She'll have a day to remember I'm sure.

There are four flags on display. From the left we have (1) the Australian flag, (2) Victoria's State flag; and on the right of the building, (3) the official Aboriginal flag, and (4) the Torres Strait Islander flag (the last two representing the indigenous peoples of this country).
