Star Theatre reborn

The Star Theatre building (1937) was designed by Tasmanian architect Guy Crick, and frankly it looks like it has just stepped out of an Edward Hopper painting.

Closed in 1969 (another victim of television in perhaps the same way restaurants are disappearing today because of food delivery services) it lay dormant until 1971 until bought by the St Vincent de Paul Society.

In 2015 it was purchased by three Launceston entrepreneurs, Andrew Quaile, Ben Davis and Paul Lee-Archer, and work began restoring it as a movie theatre. The grand re-opening was held on April 6, 2018, and the cinema now shows a range of largely independent films. It's the place to be in Launceston on a Saturday night.
