Marble attic sarcophagus, found at Ayios Ioannis, Patras, Peloponnese AD 150-170
The sarcophagus, made of Pentelic marble, has a saddle lid. The hunt for the Calydonian boar, in which Meleager and Atalanta took part, is depicted on one long and one narrow side. On the other long side two confronted lions with a large kantharos between them are depicted. The other narrow side is adorned with a griffin pulling down an ox. Work of an Attic workshop.
Length 2,10 m., width 0,96 m., height with the lid 1,50 m.
