Vertical garden at the Musee du Quai Branly, Paris
The Musee du Quai Branly is the new ethnology museum in Paris. This picture shows the administrative block designed by Jean Nouvel who has created a vertical garden. The whole surface of the building is covered in plants that seem to have established themselves very well. The outer walls are covered in a felt-like material with pockets for the plants and a constant source of water running down from the top. There are some slightly bald patches at ground level where passers-by like me have been unable to resist the desire to poke at the surface to see what it is made of but the building looks stunning and is well worth a trip. The museum collection is interesting too!
