This precious bird, who is now fine, flew into the glass of my sliding glass door in South Florida. At first, he looked dead (did not have my camera with me and too sad to capture anyway), one wing splayed out, legs curled up, eyes closed-- awful. Rarely, this happens that birds fly into my sliding glass door. If I find them, usually I talk to them and encourage them, or sometimes, when they don't move on their own, pick them up and stroke them. Like this bird, they mostly recover, sit for a long time to collect themselves, and eventually fly off. I stay with them to make sure the neighborhood cats don't get them. (I love the cats, too, and they like to hang out in my yard.) Right after this little bird stood up, it "threw up" two berries, one staying in it's mouth. After maybe ten mintues, finally this bird flew away and seemed to be fine, thank goodness. Rarely, I have found dead birds, who did not recover-- and I wonder if sometimes they simply die from shock. They seem to need much encouragement when this happens. Of course, a hard "fly-in" would probably cause irreparable damage, but my glass is recessed, and sort of hard for birds to hit full speed.

Don't know what kind of bird this is. Can't find it in my bird book. I love my Flickr friends' bird shots. I don't have the camera or talent for capturing birds normally. But as I sat with this little guy, as he/she recovered, I remembered to go grab my camera.

ID anyone? It does sort of look like a catbird as RedRocker and others suggested, but does not have an eye ring, and the tail looks different. Maybe it's an "immature"
