The earlier versions of the Excel had the Lotus heater and air conditioning system. This was a very space efficient unit, but struggled in the heating & cooling the car (based upon my experiences in my Elite) My plan was to use the Toyota unit as used in the later versions of the Excel, but the unit is about 25mm deeper (needs to be confirmed) which means that it will not fit straight into the earlier style dashboards.
