Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire 24th September 2006
A reworked version of an earlier posting.
The Commemoration of the 40th year since the Great Central Railway London Extension closed south of Rugby saw Southern Railway Merchant Navy Class Pacific 35005 Canadian Pacific dressed up as 35030 Elder Dempster Lines which pulled a special train on that last day. Later in September 2006 she has just got the road out of platform 2.
35005 is currently under overhaul at the Mid-Hants. The real 35030 was withdrawn at the end of Southern steam in July 1967 & cut up at Buttigieg's scrapyard in Newport South Wales in 1968 - see my photo below.
