Woodham's Barry South Wales October 1968

A line of preserved Great Western locos before they were famous. The main attraction is Castle 4-6-0 5080 Defiant with Hall 4-6-0 4953 Pitchford Hall on the left and a Large Prairie 2-6-2T on the right. Both 4-6-0s are minus their tenders. Pity the prairie isn't 4141 because I could then say I had fired and driven all three because virtually all the engines at Woodham's were saved!

It’s interesting to see that, unlike Defiant, the Prairie has still got its safety valve cover even though the engines are fairly well stripped. It may have been this one that was loose and that I very briefly considered taking as a souvenir. It was only when I climbed up, saw the actual size and felt the weight of it that I decided it wasn’t really a good idea!
