Chasing light (in explore)
I managed to capture the northern lights the same day as this image but this was by far the more exciting one to get! I had been in a local town just experimenting with my Fuji X100s, familiarising myself with the camera and its settings and getting some test shots. On my way home I noticed a huge cloud bank building and decided on the spur of the moment to head to a place called the Deverils. It has stunning view across rolling hills and figured it would make a nice foreground for those awesome looking clouds.
Well, I wasn't wrong! I rocked up to this spot and almost fell out of the car when i was greeted by those dark clouds and the soft light dancing across the fields in front of me. Turns out i wasn't the only photographer who had been drawn like a moth to this spot. As I was running (waddling) up the stony track to a good spot that didn't include telegraph poles in the foreground, a Transit van full of photographer led by none other than Charlie Waite pulled up and out poured half a dozen guys all eager for the same shot. Charlie was obviously conducting a workshop and as he is a loca lad to me he also realised the potential for some great images here. I introduced mysilf to him and said hello to his group and then quietly went about my business, eager not to disturb Charlie at work!
Turned out he is quite the chatty guy and very welcoming and friendly and I ended up chatting to him and some of his group while we waited for the next bank of clouds to roll in and the light to position itself on the hills correctly. Secretly i was really pleased as I was earwigging what Charlie was telling them and did learn quite a bit so thanks for the free advise!
