IMG_4485 Diving Brown Pelicans
Another amazing experience in Galapagos happened at Black Turtle Cove, on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island. This is a mangrove cove used as nurseries for marine turtles, white-tipped sharks and leopard rays. It was also filled with Brown Pelicans in breeding plumage which were continuously diving into the water for the many small fish there. There were dozens of dive-bombing pelicans---thwack--landing close to our panga (dingy). It was amazing to watch them tuck in at the end of the dive and hit the water so hard. Sometimes, they'd dive in pairs. Our guides and panga drivers all said (once again) that we were being treated to a spectacle that they had never even seen.
