Sacramento Flooding
212/365/DS497 - The horizon can be a strong composition element. Make a photograph that emphasizes the horizon today.
Today I ventured out to the Yolo Causeway between West Sacramento and Davis. What you see here is, during the summer months, rice fields. When we have excess rainfall in the winter/spring, these fields are flooded to 'save' Sacramento from being flooded. This is just a very small portion of the flooding, It extends on both sides of the freeway and for as far as the eye could see. I am standing on the levee that prevents the water from flooding into Davis. The road I drove in on to get to the levee was half flooded. I'll post additional pictures to get the full effect. Far in the distance there is the Sacramento city skyline. It looks far off but it can't be more than 15-20 miles at most.
