The last bit of light from the sunset over the Pacific Ocean illuminates distant clouds creating a rainbow of soft pastels as cotton candy blue fog rolls over the deep green pines and grassy hills of the California foothills. The fog condenses as it is forced over the hilltops and the moisture feeds water hungry forest below. Walk down into the pines on a day like this and you will quickly find yourself in a full blown rainstorm but it's nothing more than the fog condensing on the canopy high above. This type of scenery covers most of the California coast from Big Sur up to Redwood National Park where the trees finally overtake the grassy foothills completely.
This is the sixth image I have posted from my new Nikon D800E and yes, the E really does make a difference that is lost on all but landscape photographers. The clarity of the edges have eliminated the need to sharpen the original image. The camera also amazed me with its dynamic range (dark to light) and lack of noise at most print sizes even with a high ISO settings. If you are considering an 800E and shoot mostly landscapes I can highly recommend the camera. Do expect your computer to choke on the massive 36.3 Megapixel images. I keep the tablet handy (when the wife hasn't confiscated it to play games) as copying files from my memory cards takes forever.
