Afterglow - Sunset in Yosemite

Preferred Viewing

Desktop Wallpaper

Once I start taking pictures I find it hard to leave. The sun had long since set and with it everyone else split. It was one of the busiest days I've ever seen in the park but once it got dark, voop, everyone disappeared. I kept telling myself it was getting too dark but at the same time I was really liking what I was seeing. And I was the only one left taking pictures!

The camera can gather light over time much better than your eyes can see and the colors are often deep rich blues and violets. Some of my favorite shots by other photographers are those taken long after the sun has gone down. The soft light takes over and harsh contrast flows in to soft colors off the canyon walls and clouds above. In the High Sierra, an effect called Alpenglow occurs just after sunset. Light from the sun is bent though the atmosphere and lights up the peaks.

So other than a slight blue cast on the Camera display, this is what I was seeing on the Nikon D300 display after a 3 second exposure.
