Winter in Yosemite is absolutely the best. Upon leaving Yosemite I always get this slightly sad feeling of leaving a close friend behind not knowing when I might return. On the way out there is one last pull out where the trees part along the banks of the Merced River and Yosemite Valley is once again revealed in all its splendor. This spot is sacred to me having a oil painting of the scene my mother did when I was a small child. It still hangs on my bedroom wall reminding me my old friend will always be there for me should I decide to return. On this particular day the road to this vista had been closed so we hiked in though the snow. The scene changed from moment to moment with El Capitan going in and out of view hiding behind the banks of fog. In the silence of a snowy day, Bridal Veil Falls could clearly be heard over the soft trickling of the Merced River. I knew I should be heading out back home but I stayed at this spot till the fog and dark finally won and closed down upon the cliffs of The Yosemite. This is one of my personal favorite shots of the valley.
The image is comprised of three shots taken in the portrait orientation and then stitched together with Photoshop. They had been on my hard drive for a few of years till late last night I came across them and decided to try stitching them together. The final cropped image size is 4481 x 2957 pixels. I have to say I am pleased with the outcome since when these were taken I knew very little about stitching images and how to get the exposures correct. Fortunately Adobe Camera RAW helped match the exposure of the three images.
