Yosemite - Lembert Dome

View On Black

If you can manage to drag yourself from the stunning landscapes of Yosemite

Valley and drive up to the high country you will eventually reach Tuolumne

Meadows. At the far end of the meadow and just across the street from

Tuolumne Meadows Camp Ground is Lembert Dome. As a kid this is where I

spent many summer vacations. Fishing the river, hiking the many trails and

just having the time of my life. It's a great place to visit and the best

time is as soon as they open the roads which are closed in the winter.

Unlike Yosemite Valley the high country is much less crowded but camping

spots are still in high demand in the summer months. Lembert dome rises

above the Tuolumne River over 800 ft. The meadow is lush and green in

early summer and wild flowers bloom all over the meadow. Summer afternoons

are sometimes filled with sudden thunderstorms as clouds build over the

Sierra Nevada as shown in this image. Sure enough, not long after taking

this, it was raining. When the rain passes you can get the wonderful

alpine glow that the park is known for. Tuolumne Meadows is the largest

alpine meadow in the world and there are many good places to explore.
