Jupiter Rising - Yosemite National Park

Magically high clouds above Yosemite National Park cause large rings to form around the stars as the planet Jupiter rises above Yosemite Valley creating a alien view. At first glance you might mistake the large planet for the moon but no, it is Jupiter rising above Yosemite Valley as the moon serves to illuminate the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Bridal Veil. The unusual large size of Jupiter and surrounding stars due to the long exposure and ring created by high clouds made of ice crystals. The ring around the moon was massive and correctly indicated the next day’s storm. Waiting for the moon to get high enough in the sky to begin to light up the near side of El Capitan I had to out wait all but the most diehard photographers on a chilly night in Yosemite Valley.
