Here's the banner at the end of another instant NextGen Home. The aspirations are nice in a generic way: green, digital, strong, efficient... But some of the brands here reek of proprietary lock-in. We've built or remodeled five houses in the last ten years, and I can tell ya, lock-in is the last thing you want — and the first thing companies like Microsoft and Lutron will try to give you.
