Crax daubentoni. Yellow-knobbed Curassow
Belgium. Antwerp Zoo.
Crax daubentoni occurs in north Venezuela (north of the río Orinoco), and at a few scattered localities in north-east Colombia (west foothills of Sierra de Perijá from Montes de Oca south to Fonseca, and east of the Andes from east Norte de Santander south to north-west Arauca1,4). It was formerly common in the llanos of Venezuela, but was perhaps always locally distributed throughout the remainder of its range2. The population is estimated at 10,000-40,000 individuals, divided into more than five sub-populations, each of which is fragmented and declining4.
