To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the introduction of route 500(and with it, the entire Red Arrow network of routes), MEC50 has been repainted into a special livery based on the livery worn by MBA-class AEC-MCW Merlins for the Red Arrow routes. It's even been "renumbered" to MBA50!
That fleetnumber wasn't worn by the Red Arrow MBAs, which were allocated MBA16-31(low driving position) and MBA166-193(high driving position) but I still find it really nice and somewhat nostalgic to find the MBA fleetcode imprinted on the side of MEC50.
Today, however, only 2 such routes remain; the all-week 507(Waterloo - Victoria) and the Monday-Friday 521(Waterloo - London Bridge). These are both allocated MEC-class Citaro facelifts as well as 4 demonstrator electric vehicles; 2 BYD K-9s numbered EB1 and EB2 and 2 Irizar i2es numbered EI1 and EI2. Soon, these will be replaced by 51 Enviro 200MMC-bodied BYD eBuses numbered SEe1-51.
Seen at Waterloo Station(Upper Taxi Road) is Go-Ahead London General MEC50/BT09GPJ, a Mercedes-Benz O530 Citaro Facelift based at Waterloo(RA), working route 507(Waterloo - Victoria).
