Henry B. Dupont Preservation Shipyard
The Henry B. Dupont is a unique, world famous facility that employs very skilled workers to maintain, restore and preserve Mystic Seaport's historic vessels.
It was also in this facility where the Freedom Schooner Amistad was built. The new Amistad is a replica of the old trading schooner....you may have seen the movie about the African captives staging the revolt in 1839 and the ensuing courtroom drama which finally resulted in the slaves being returned to Africa. Well, if you haven't seen the movie you should see it. :-)
The Amistad now travels around the world to promote awareness of history and cooperation among races. In between voyages, it is docked at Mystic Seaport. Unfortunately it was at sea when we went there last weekend.
