Shepherds' Luck
Travelling along the Stour valley road in Essex I was looking for old cottages and churches, mills...anything that really spoke to me about this part of the Essex and Suffolk borders to photograph. While turning my car around in an old overgrown barnyard beside some outbuildings I found this old shed that had been used for what looked like many years to cover old ploughs and a tractor. This horseshoe and sheep medallion were nailed onto a support post beneath the metal sheeting roof. The area is well-known for grazing sheep and being a good wool-producing area dating all the way back into medieval times. I felt this simple good luck charm really said it all about the area, sheep, hard work, and a little luck never hurt.
