Old Homestead at Waxhaw

This old North Carolina homestead is at Waxhaw but was not always there. It was moved to save it from time and progress as the Charlotte, NC area expands. The Secrest log house was probably built during the 1840s as Union County was formed. In 1997, the cabin was donated to the museum and moved from its original site on the Secrest family’s land in Monroe, NC.The Secrest family’s oral legend says that Andrew Jackson Secrest was named after Andrew Jackson, Sr., a family friend and neighbor of the Secrest’s, and the father of the 7th President, Andrew Jackson.Several other structures make up the entire homestead exhibit.
