Dancing their Joy
The end of a whole lunar calendar month of prayer several times a day and night while fasting from sunrise until sunset during the holy days of Ramadan, is cause for feasting and celebration. Called Eid-al-Fitr (the end of Ramadan) or just "eid" is marked traditionally by the selection and slaughtering of a lamb followed by a feast...but also by dancing, singing, fireworks, and many various kinds of festivities for Muslims worldwide. In modern Morocco, Eid is a day of joyful (sometimes boisterous) celebration including traditional dancing, chanting and singing by dance troupes that tour from place to place on this important day. The mens shoulder bags and yellow slippers are very traditionally Moroccan.
